Key Verse:
“Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
— James 4:8a (NIV)
Devotional:
There are seasons when God feels close—when prayer flows, Scripture speaks, and your heart feels tender.
But there are also seasons when it feels like the connection is gone.
Quiet. Dull. Flat.
You might wonder, What happened? Did I drift? Did He?
The truth? God never leaves.
But we can get distracted. Drained. Disconnected.
Not always through rebellion—sometimes just through busyness, grief, disappointment, or silence.
But James 4:8 gives us a promise: “Come near to God, and He will come near to you.”
He doesn’t play hide-and-seek.
He’s not punishing you with distance.
He’s inviting you to return.
You don’t need to clean yourself up.
You don’t need the perfect words.
You just need to come honestly—exactly as you are.
He’s still here.
Still listening.
Still ready to restore what feels far away.
Reflection & Prayer Prompt:
When was the last time you felt truly close to God? What changed?
Have you been avoiding Him—or just unsure how to reconnect?
What would a simple first step back to closeness look like for you today?
Faith in Action:
Journal: Write to God like a friend: “I’ve felt distant, but I want to come close again.”
Reconnect Slowly: Read one Psalm aloud today. Let the words carry what you can’t express yet.
Be Present: Go for a walk without music or distraction and simply say, “God, I’m here.”
Prayer:
Lord, I miss You. I’ve felt distant, distracted, and maybe even discouraged. But I believe You haven’t left me. Draw me back. Stir my heart again. Meet me in this quiet place and remind me what closeness feels like. I want You more than I want answers. Amen.
